God of Carnage

State theatre company of south australia
Director: michael Hill
Writer: Yasmina Reza

The French writer Yasmina Reza tells us what happens when parents get involved in children’s quarrels. If the educated parents of two children in the western world can not problem solve the most basic of situations, what hope is there for global issues like genocide and terrorism. The set included very contemporary shapes and textures and paid homage to Francis Bacon and Muslim art.
The set had to tour to South Australian venues with a bump-in time of 6 hours. The platform broke down into a number of smaller platforms with a tall back wall giving the impression of an inner city lounge room whilst being an independent structure with out having to be rigged with in the venue.

.... takes place on the fearfully stylish Arabian-motif French living room set designed by Morag Cook - a statement in its own right. In all, this bitterly funny play, despite its rather abrupt ending, is jewel in the crown of State Theatre programming._
